DataDotDNA® Micro–Identifier Technology

It took researchers nearly 100 years to establish DNA as the unique signature for organic life.看 In just eight, DataDotDNA® has done the same thing for automobiles, motorcycles, marine equipment, clothing, building materials, packaging–and the list of uses just keeps expanding.

Invented in Australia in 2000, DataDotDNA technology laser–etches unique microscopic information, from vehicle identification numbers or computer–generated PINs to names, serial numbers or manufacturing information, onto grain of sand–sized discs made of a polymer substrate.看 The mini–discs, roughly 1mm in size, are then applied to an object by the thousands using a permanent adhesive that is visible under ultraviolet light.看 DataDotDNA information can be registered on the company's global secure online database repository, DataBaseDNA, for later use in establishing ownership.

Because of their size and number, DataDots are virtually impossible to remove in their entirety. If a vehicle or other high–value item is stolen, DataDotDNA's patented application process allows police and other authorities to find and read the information on a DataDot disc with nothing more than a UV light and ordinary magnifying devices.

“The power of DataDotDNA is in its ability to bond with the item in question.看 Like DNA itself, DataDotDNA associates an object with a unique identity, permanently and forever,” said Ian Allen, co–founder and CEO of DataDot Technology Ltd. “What we're finding, however, is that the DataDotDNA concept is expandable far beyond the original disc format.看 Our company continues to find customers in its original markets of manufacturing, asset tracking and collectibles–but by transferring micro–identifier techniques into thread, package labels and even molecular compounds, we're continuing to find other cost–effective and revolutionary uses for DataDotDNA.”

By imprinting DataDotDNA information on a metallic substrate, for example, DataDot Technology has created a way to track copper, one of the most–stolen industrial products.看 The metallic version began shipping in July and is already being evaluated by other industry manufacturers with high–risk industrial theft issues.

Another application with huge potential impact is the fight against counterfeit designer clothing. DataThreadDNA®, a new version of DataDotDNA technology, integrates unique identifier information into fine thread. Clothing manufacturers can sew DataThreadDNA thread into garments or labels, thereby preventing fraud or counterfeiting. The thread can be incorporated into fabrics, upholstery, even paper as a way to verify authenticity of currency or legal, investment or banking documents.

Through industrial manufacturers, DataDot Technology Ltd. is exploring options for recording information about a product's manufacture, routing and movement history. And in perhaps its most exciting application yet, DataDot Technology Ltd. has partnered with the CSIRO, the Australian Government's Scientific Industry Research Organization, in a joint venture to create forensic tracers that can be mixed into concrete, paper, plastics, inks and even explosives to identify their point of origination. This forensic layer of authentication is present in every DataDotDNA product to ensure law enforcement and the courts can successfully conclude court cases.

DataTraceDNA is already being used by several global companies as a foundation layer of security to solve brand protection and supply chain problems. Companies and governments are now also using DataTraceDNA for identity verification which is the first step in fighting organized crime and terrorism. 看

Once DataTraceDNA is incorporated into materials, it becomes part of the product and cannot be destroyed even by fire. In fact the tracers survive temperatures up to 1200 degrees Celsius and have been proven to mark explosives even after the explosion. It's the perfect solution for manufacturers suffering from counterfeiting and diversion. 看
